Winter—a season of sweaters, hot cocoa, and picturesque snowfalls. It also brings with it a less glamorous side: dry, irritated skin. Cold temperatures, biting winds, and indoor heating can leave your skin feeling parched and lackluster. But fear not my beautiful friends. With a few smart practices and carefully chosen products, you can keep your skin healthy and radiant all winter long. We’re rounding up 5 skin care tips to keep your skin healthy during the winter.
Tip #1 Switch to a gentle cleanser + moisturizers and night creams
Harsh cleansers can strip your skin of its natural oils. You’ll want to help sustain your skin’s natural protective barrier to maintain your skin’s moisture. Be sure you use gentle cleansing products like the CeraVe Hydrating Facial Cleanser or Cetaphil Gentle Skin cleanser to prevent irritation.
Winter definitely isn’t the season where you’d want to skimp on moisturizer. Remember to finish off your routine with a good moisturizer such as Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. It’s light weight texture works well for oily skin. If your skin type is dry or combination, CeraVe Skin Renewing Night Cream is great to use in the evening for added moisture.

Tip #2 Exfoliate, But Gently
Exfoliation is the key to removing dead skin cells and allowing your moisturizer to work more effectively. However, over-exfoliating can worsen dryness and irritation. Stick to a gentle exfoliant, like Elf Gentle Peeling Exfoliant or Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Facial Scrub and limit use to once or twice a week.

Tip #3 SPF is Still Essential
It’s a common misconception that you only have to use SPF during the summer months. Even when the sun isn’t visible, there is still UVA present which can damage your skin. If you want to prevent premature aging, you should be wearing SPF all year round (If you wear makeup, apply SPF before your foundation).
We recommend the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen.

Tip #4 Don’t Forget the Lips
The one part of our skin that suffers most during winter is our lips. Everyone hates the feeling of chapped lips, especially when they are so dry that they start to split and crack. OUCH!
You want to make sure you have a lip balm that you apply throughout the day when your lips feel dehydrated. Integrate a lip product, such as an oil or a balm like EOS Organic Lip balm. Use it in your daily and nightly skincare routine.
It’s also a wonderful idea to add an overnight mask like the Laniege Lip Sleeping Mask. Your lips deserve a boost of hydration.

Tip #5 Give Your Skin Some TLC
Winter is the perfect time to give your skin some extra TLC. Consider booking a spa day or getting a facial from your trusted aesthetician. While nothing beats having a consistent skincare routine, a facial treatment can help you target specific concerns like hyperpigmentation and dehydration.
Ideally, you should book a facial every four weeks. If that’s not ideal for your pocketbook, try and book for at least two treatments during the winter. It’s the best way to boost your skincare routine.
